With all the silly talk LeBron James needing a Lakers statue, the last real Lakers legend Kobe Bryant will get immortalized in bronze.
According to a press release from the team and a video posted by Vanessa Bryant at 8:24 this morning, a statue of the Mamba will unveiled on February 8, 2024 ( 2/8/24).
“ As you know,, Kobe played his entire 20-year career as a Los Angeles Laker. Since arriving in this city and joining the Lakers organization, he felt at home here, playing in the City of Angels. On behalf of the Lakers, my daughters and me, I am so honored that, right in the center of Los Angeles, in front of the place known as the house that Kobe built, we are going to unveil his statue so that his legacy can be celebrated forever.”
Bryant finished his career with 33,643 points, 7,047 rebounds, 6,306 assists and 1,944 steals. His extensive career achievements included:
- 18-time NBA All-Star
- 15-time All-NBA
- 5-time NBA Champion
- 2-time NBA Finals MVP
- 12-time All-Defensive team
- 1996-97 All-Rookie Team
- 2-time NBA scoring champion
- 4-time All-Star Game MVP
- Member of the NBA 75th anniversary team
He boasts per game averages of 25.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.
Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven others tragically perished January 20, 2020 in a helicopter crash. The basketball world is still reeling from Bryant’s untimely death.
